Artists' chasubles

Lucia Nanni Bubilda

Lucia Bubilda Nanni, an artist who draws with the sewing machine, has imagined a chasuble that kept a precious piece of nature, a reference to the ancient flowered planets, where butterflies, bees and moths – symbolic presences of night and day – are inextricably intertwined with each other. The starting point of his research is a painting by Giovan Francesco Caroto, (La Madonna della farfalla) in which a sweet Baby Jesus holds a butterfly together through a very thin thread. In this chasuble the artist imagines a deep reversal: not a single thread, but a cascade of threads of butterflies that fill the space
