Intervention of conservationist restoration of a mantle and a dress of a sculpture of the Virgin Mary.

The dress and mantle of the statue of the Virgin Mary, belong to the second half of 1700, made by Italian manufacture.

The artwork is in a fairly good state of preservation, however the periods of use and exposure of the work, have caused several phenoms of physical and mechanical deterioration.

Restoration phases:

  • Micro suction at controlled speed
  • Cleaning
  • Washing
  • Consolidation

Disassembling

Partial disassembly of the package to allow the washing of the dress, and of the harness

Microsuction

Micro-suction at controlled speed and elimination of particle deposit on front and back of all tissues

Cleaning

Cleaning with neutral pH sponges of the background fabric of clothing, mantle and metallic yarns

Washing

Immersion and low pressure table washing with pH detergent solution. neutral, with the help of soft brushes and natural sponges.

Consolidation

Positioning of local supports and technical points to make the necessary stops depending on the degradation
