Intervention of conservationist restoration of a double sided processional standard of unknown artist from 1717. The subjects: Our Lady Immaculate with Saint Zeno; Saint Pietro and Giovanni

The artifact was in a precarious state of conservation. The construction, housing and mechanical and environmental stresses had caused different phenomena of degradation, physical and mechanical.

Due to the deterioration and the inadequate capacity to carry out its ancient functions, a timely restoration intervention was necessary.

Disassembling

Disassembly of packaging, suspension and division of the two sides

Suction

Suction and elimination of particulate deposits on the front and back of all tissues through an aspiration with micro-aspirator at controlled speed and protective filter nets

Cleaning

Cleaning by means of soft rubbers sponge and cotton balls, exerting a measured pressure

Consolidation

onsolidation of metal yarns and bottom fabric with technical stitches sewn by hand. Application of heat reactive adhesive in areas of degradation impossible to sew

Pictorial retouching

Retouches made by watercolor in correspondence of the most showy abrasions and in the most critical aesthetic areas
