Intervention of conservationist restoration of a double sided processional standard from the first quarter of the seventeenth century. The subjects: Circumcision of baby Jesus; Agnus Dei

The methods of realization, the dimensions, the custody and the fruition of the good are among the main causes that have affected the state of conservation of the artifact.

The mechanical and environmental stresses, activated during the periods of exposure and use have caused widespread and different phenomena of physical and mechanical degradation on silk already weakened by time.

Restoration phases:

  • Division of the two sides
  • Micro suction at controlled speed
  • Vaporization
  • Cleaning of embroidery and background fabric
  • Consolidation
  • Pictorial retouching
  • Packaging

Partial disassembly of packaging and division of the two sides

Suction and elimination of particulate deposits on the front and back of all tissues through an aspiration with micro-aspirator at controlled speed and protective filter nets.

Cleaning with ph-neutral rubbers by exerting a controlled pressure massage

Consolidation of metal yarns and bottom fabric with technical stitches sewn by hand. Application of heat reactive adhesive in areas of degradation impossible to sew
